Scottish Highland Dancing is a celebration of the Scottish spirit. The dances are a spectacular combination of movement, music, and costume. They are generally danced solo, and in competition and the music is typically a tune on the bagpipes. The dances are great fun and anyone, not just with a Scottish heritage, who thrills to the sound of the bagpipe can join in an learn the dances. Dancers from Kyla's School of Highland Dance will be performing traditional Scottish Highland dances including the Sword Dance and the Highland Fling. There will also be character dances such as the Sailor's Hornpipe and the Irish Jig. Additionally, the group will be dancing several of it's award winning choreographies, that run the gamete from traditional Scottish dance to what many may associate with the Riverdance phenomenon. In addition to performing throughout the region, the dancers from the school attend competitions throughout the United States, Canada and Scotland. As a result of all of their hard work and dedication they have won awards at the British Overseas Championships, the United States National Championships, the Western United States Championships and the Western Regional Championships.
